Once you’re done decluttering clothing, it’s time to declutter your bedroom(s). QUICK TIP: If you aren’t sure if you want to keep an item, turn the hanger around and if you haven’t used it in a certain period of time that you decide, donate it. Edit everything – keep the best – this is the time to be critical and eliminate anything you don’t use or need.Sort clothing by season and type – I find that this really helps me keep clothing in check and see what I have.Assess everything – is there anything that you can toss, donate, or relocate? Make a quick assessment on what you use for outerwear and keep what you use regularly and donate anything that you no longer wear or need. ![]() Decide on a number or what you have room to store and keep the best. I am a minimalist when it comes to shoes and try to keep under 5-7 pairs at any given time. Go through shoes quickly and keep what you wear regularly and considering donating any shoes that don’t fit or are not in your regular rotation. I used the labels from The Clutter Handbook and attached them with a clothespin to these laundry baskets from IKEA. RELOCATE – Still love it, use it or need it, but it doesn’t belong here Ready? I use my Homekeeping Planner but you can write it on the checklist, in a calendar, on a scratch sheet fo paper. I guarantee that if you toss these things today, you won't miss them tomorrow (or a year from now). These are things that everyone has lying around taking up space, making your closets and drawers crowded and unorganized. So now I'm moving on to a whole house declutter and I'm armed with a list of 75 things to throw away. And the lesson I learned from both of these projects? We haven't missed a thing that we've purged, and we are so much happier with what we have kept. And my twins helped me with a major toy purge before Christmas. I've been making great progress towards decluttering - I read The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up and applied it to my bedroom closet, getting rid of clothes that I hadn't worn since before we moved here. And now it is time to declutter the house and strive towards keeping it that way. and a lot of stuff. Seriously, where did it all come from? I hate moving and have every intention of staying in this house until I am very old and gray, but I have come to realize that I have let too much junk accumulate here in the past few years. We moved in as an almost married couple and have since become a family with twin boys, two dogs, a cat. In May, we will have been in our house for 12 years. ![]()
